Practical information

This year’s conference will be held in South Kuta in beautiful Bali, Indonesia. Please find some practical information below.

Getting to Bali and the Hotel

To get to Bali from abroad, it is recommended to fly to the Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar. The distance between the airport and the Conference Hotel is approximately 15 minutes (up to 30 minutes during peak hours). There is no shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. The easiest way to get to the hotel is to take a taxi. The ride will cost approximately IDR 60.000, per cab (or about USD 6 at the March 2011 rate).

IMTA Conference locations

Visa

There are several categories of visas for visitors to Indonesia as follows:

Citizens of these countries do not need a visa to enter Indonesia: Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macao, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam.

Citizens of these countries can have Visa-on-Arrival facilities at the port of entry in Indonesia: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Laos, Latvia, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Maldives, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan Territory, Timor Leste, Tunisia, The Netherlands, United Arab Emirate, United Kingdom and the United States of America

Citizens from other countries must obtain visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy.

A Tourist Visa (obtained upon arrival or at an embassy) has a validity of maximum 30 days and is non-extendable, one has to leave the country and to return to get a new visa, and at the time of this writing, will cost USD 25.00.

Customs

Customs allow a maximum of one liter of alcoholic beverages, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 grams of tobacco, and a reasonable amount of perfume per adult on entry. There is no restriction on the import and export of foreign currencies in cash, travelers cheques and other bank instruments which are fully convertible to Rupiah and vice versa. No more than Rp 100.000.000,- in Indonesian currency can be taken in or out of the country. Goods obtained overseas exceeding USD 250 per person or USD 1.000 per family are subject to import duty.
When you leave Bali by plane to another island, or when you return to your home country, prior to boarding, each passenger must pay the domestic airport tax or the international departure tax. This is 30.000 Rupiah (about USD 3) for domestic, and 100.000 Rupiah (about USD 10) for international destinations.

The government of Indonesia considers transaction and the use of drugs and psychotropic substances, including marijuana as serious crimes, and the maximum penalty is the death sentence. Do not accept any offer related to drugs by a stranger. Please do not spoil your trip.

Immigration

Citizens of countries not on the visa on arrival or visa free lists will be required to apply for a visa before entering Indonesia. All visitors must have a passport valid for at least six months after their arrival date in Indonesia. Indonesian Immigration officials reserve the right to deny entry to any visitor who, in their opinion, is not properly dressed or groomed, lacks the proper funds, or "may endanger the country’s security, peace, and stability or the public health and morals." These persons will receive a transit visa upon arrival that allows them to hang out at the airport until the first available flight out.
